Continuing on from my previous post, I found this excerpt from the A Night in Casablanca  Wikipedia page particularly meaningful:

A popular story (spread in part by Groucho himself) surrounding the movie is that the Marx Brothers were threatened with a lawsuit by Warner Bros. for the use of the word "Casablanca" in the film's title due to it being an infringement on the company's rights to the 1942 film Casablanca.[1] Groucho responded with a letter asserting that he and his siblings had use of the word "brothers" prior to the establishment of Warner Brothers (and many others had before that), and often the story is told that Groucho threatened a counter-suit based on this assertion.[2] He also mentioned that he would consider further legal action by pointing out to Warners that the title of their current hit film Night and Day infringed on the titles of two Marx Brothers films released by MGMA Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races.

It smacks of inner twin shenanigans!!  I noted in the two Marx Brothers films mentioned, that the Directors name is Sam Wood.  This serves as a twin heads up connecting to my recent September 19 post where  “wood duck” played a part.  Note from Sam’s Wikipedia page:

Samuel Grosvenor Wood (July 10, 1883 – September 22, 1949)

TODAY is September 22nd… the anniversary of Wood’s death and so another addition to the “Timely” pattern cluster.

The other 3 films mentioned in the above excerpt serve as leads.  Perusing the list of cast, two stood out:

  • Jane Wyman(Sarah Jane Mayfield; January 5, 1917 – September 10, 2007)as Gracie
  • Robert Middlemass (September 3, 1883 – September 10, 1949)  as the Sheriff

To bee continued…
