My mother who is in a Senior Home is 85. The Home underwent a change of ownership. At some point my mom was no longer allowed to use oil paints because as she claims: the Home will no longer allow her to use oil because of the smell. My mother is an artist and has been for as long as I can remember, and she had always painted with oils. So she switched to water and acrylic, butt neither of these are as satisfying for her. The owner of the home then began putting pressure on us (and likely on my mother) to rid of her art supplies and paintings that were claimed to be "cluttering" up her room and making it difficult for the cleaners. In particular the mention of a box full of art supplies under her bed had to be moved in order to sweep under the bed... Note: the box is designed for under the bed-- it's plastic and on wheels. Regardless at 85, my mother has given up painting altogether... NO WONDER!! When I was up visiting not long ago, my mother and I passed by a room where people were coming in and out of and I asked her what the room was, and my mother rolled her eyes when she said "smoking room". It hit me at that time: why are people given a room to smoke and my mother isn't given space and time in that room (ventilated I'm sure) to do her oil paintings?! Now it's important at this time to check out the poster ad for the film Scrooged!!
